Try These in Order
1. Ask if the server is private. The single most common cause. Your friend may have their game set to Friends Only or VIP. Ask them to set it to Public or send you a direct join link from the Roblox app.
2. Turn off your VPN. Roblox actively blocks many VPN IP ranges. Disable your VPN completely and try again.
3. Restart Roblox fully. Close the app entirely — not just minimise. Reopen and try joining again. Fixes roughly 20% of random join failures.
4. Check your account age. Games rated 13+ are restricted for accounts set to under-13. This cannot be changed without contacting Roblox Support with proof of age.

Most Common Cause
Private Server
01 — Most Common Causes — In Order of Frequency
1
The server is private or set to Friends Only
This is the cause in over 40% of cases. Your friend may not realise their server privacy setting is restricting access. Ask them to check their game settings and either set the server to Public, or send you a direct join link through the Roblox app home screen — this bypasses many privacy restrictions.
2
VPN or proxy is active
Roblox detects and blocks many commercial VPN IP addresses. If you are using a VPN for any reason — gaming, privacy, school network bypass — disable it completely before opening Roblox. Not just paused — fully off. Then restart the Roblox app and try again. This fixes the issue immediately in the majority of VPN cases.
3
Roblox app is outdated
If one player is on an older version of the Roblox app, joining the same server can fail silently with no useful error message. On mobile: App Store / Play Store → search Roblox → check for Update button. On PC: Roblox updates automatically when you launch it, but if it crashed mid-update, reinstall from roblox.com.
4
Account age restriction (13+ games)
Roblox applies experience guidelines that restrict certain games to players whose account age is 13+. If your account date of birth is set to under 13, you cannot access these games regardless of your actual age. To change this, contact Roblox Support at roblox.com/support with proof of age — they will update your account settings.
5
Network or firewall blocking Roblox
School networks, corporate networks, and some home routers block Roblox ports. On mobile: switch from WiFi to mobile data and try joining again. If it works on data, the problem is your WiFi network, not Roblox. On PC: try allowing Roblox through Windows Defender Firewall → Control Panel → System and Security → Allow an app through Firewall.
⚡ Fastest Fix
Have your friend leave their current game entirely, create a fresh server, and send you a new join link from the Roblox app home screen. This bypasses most server-level restrictions and cached connection issues simultaneously.

02 — Error Codes — What Each One Means
| Error Code | What It Means | Fix |
| Error 6 | Game server shut down during your join attempt | The server closed before you connected. Try joining again immediately or ask your friend to create a new server. |
| Error 17 | Connection failed — network or firewall issue | Switch from WiFi to mobile data (or vice versa). Try allowing Roblox through your firewall. Restart your router if neither works. |
| Error 267 | You were kicked by the game's own script | This is not a Roblox account ban. A specific game's anti-cheat or moderation kicked you. Try a different server of the same game or contact that game's developer. |
| Error 273 | Duplicate login — your account is open on another device | Log out of Roblox on all other devices. Sign back in on this device only and try again. |
| Error 524 | Not authorised to join — VIP or private server | The server is invite-only. You need a direct invite link from the server owner or they need to add you as a VIP member. |
| Error 769 | Teleport failed | A game tried to teleport you between places and it failed. Rejoin the game from the beginning rather than from a teleport link. |
| Error 901 | Game not available in your region | The game developer has region-restricted their experience. A VPN may fix this but Roblox may block VPN IPs — try a different server location if using a VPN. |
03 — Platform-Specific Fixes
Mobile (iOS and Android): Delete the Roblox app completely and reinstall from the App Store or Play Store. This clears corrupted cached data that causes persistent join failures. Back up your account login before doing this.
Xbox: Hard reset the console by holding the power button for 10 seconds until it fully powers off. Restart and launch Roblox. If the game is showing as unavailable, it may be region-restricted — check your Xbox region settings under Profile and System.
PlayStation: Roblox on PS5 is newer and has had more frequent join failure bugs. Check for a Roblox app update in the PS Store before troubleshooting anything else. Most PS5 join failures resolve with an app update.
PC: Uninstall Roblox via Control Panel, then download a fresh installer from roblox.com. Do not use old installer files — always get the current one from the official site.
⚠ If Nothing Works
Contact Roblox Support at roblox.com/support. Include your username, your friend's username, the game name, and the error code if you received one. Response times are 24-72 hours. For account restriction issues (age, region), support is the only route — no workaround exists.
