⚡ Stuck on a Shrine?
The Key Rule
Every shrine tests exactly one ability. If you are stuck, look at the shrine entrance — the ability you just learned or used to get inside is almost always the solution to every room inside. TotK shrines are not designed to be obtuse; they are designed to teach mechanics through constraint.

Most searched shrines: Ukouh (Construct Factory), In-isa (Fusing Weapons), Gutanbac (Ascend), Nachoyah (Recall), Kyokugon (Alignment of the Circles), Sinakawak (An Uplifting Device), Ikatak (The Whirligig).

01 — First Four Shrines — Great Sky Island

These four shrines are mandatory and introduce the four core abilities: Ultrahand, Fuse, Ascend, and Recall. They are the most searched because players encounter them with no prior context and the ability UI is new.

ShrineAbilitySolution
Ukouh Shrine
Construct Factory
Ultrahand Room 1: Grab the metal hook with Ultrahand. Attach it to the ceiling rail above the gap. Attach the flat platform to the hook. Ride across.
Room 2: Use the same hook-and-platform setup but angle the platform to reach the elevated chest before the exit. The chest contains a Construct Bow — worth grabbing.
Exit: Repeat the process on the final rail to reach the altar.
In-isa Shrine
Fusing Weapons
Fuse Rock wall: Pick up the large boulder next to the cracked wall. Open inventory and use Fuse with your stick to create a stone sledgehammer. Hit the cracked wall twice to break it.
Enemy room: Fuse a rock to an arrow and fire it at the construct. The rock arrow deals high damage and staggers it.
Chest: Behind the construct. Contains a Fused shield — equip it.
Gutanbac Shrine
The Ability to Rise
Ascend All three levels: Walk under each stone platform and use Ascend to travel through the ceiling. You emerge on top of the platform above you.
Final room: Ascend through the large angled ceiling block in the centre. You emerge directly at the altar level. No other solution needed — this is the entire shrine.
Nachoyah Shrine
Doing It in Reverse
Recall Spinning platform: Use Recall on the platform that has just reached its far point. It reverses direction and carries you across.
Spinning wheel: Wait for the wheel to complete a rotation, then use Recall to reverse it. Time your jump to land on the ascending side and ride it to the upper level.
Clock puzzle: Recall the clock hand to create a walkable bridge across the final gap.
📌 Great Sky Island Navigation
Complete all four shrines before leaving the Great Sky Island. Each shrine rewards you with a Light of Blessing, and the paraglider — which you receive after completing all four and the Temple of Time — is essential for the rest of the game. Leaving early locks you out of it until you return.

02 — Most Searched Hyrule Surface Shrines

ShrineRegionSolution
Kyokugon Shrine
Alignment of the Circles
Akkala The puzzle: Move the metal balls to align the rings into a straight pattern. Use Ultrahand to pick up and reposition each ball. The correct alignment has all three rings concentric — nested inside each other on the same vertical axis.
Trick: You do not need all rings perfectly centred. Place two correctly and the game accepts it if the largest ring is furthest out. Reset with the reset orb on the platform if you misplace them.
Sinakawak Shrine
An Uplifting Device
Eldin / Death Mountain Balloon platform: Attach a balloon to the wooden platform using Ultrahand. Hold the balloon near the fire jet to inflate it. The platform rises. Attach another balloon for more height.
Upper section: Attach two balloons to the large flat board to create a flying platform. Ride it up to the elevated section. Use a torch or fire arrow to pop balloons and descend if needed.
Ikatak Shrine
The Whirligig
Lanayru Fan puzzle: Attach a fan to the vehicle using Ultrahand. Activate it with your hand to spin. The vehicle rotates and should cross the gap with the fan angled correctly.
Key angle: The fan needs to face toward the gap, not upward. Rotate the fan attachment before activating. If the vehicle spins in place, readjust the fan direction 90 degrees.
Kikakin Shrine
Tensioned Threads
Faron / Lake region Rope system: Use Ultrahand to grab the hook on the rope and pull it across to the anchor point on the far wall. When the rope is taut, objects placed on it slide across by gravity.
Chest access: Send the wooden box across on the rope first. The chest inside the box contains a Strong Zonaite Shield. Then use the rope to cross yourself.
Mayahisik Shrine
Proving Grounds: Intermediate
Eldin Combat shrine: Your gear is removed. Find the sword on the platform to the left on entry. Use it to defeat the three construct enemies. The first is straightforward. The second uses a shield — Fuse a bomb flower to an arrow to break the shield from distance. The third flies — shoot it down with arrows then finish on the ground.
Runakit Shrine
Built to Carry
Lanayru Vehicle construction: Attach the two flat sleds together with a fan on the rear to create a cart. Drive it through the water channel. Attach a second fan for speed if the current fights you.
Elevated section: Detach one sled and use Ascend through the ceiling to reach the upper platform. The altar is directly above the water channel exit.

03 — Sky Island Shrines — How to Reach Them

Sky Island shrines are often blocked not by the puzzle but by how to physically reach the shrine entrance. The game gives you visual hints — updrafts, Zonai devices and launch pads — that point toward the intended approach.

1
Updrafts — the most common route
White spinning air columns carry you upward when you open your paraglider inside them. Most sky shrine approaches have an updraft visible nearby. Walk into it, open paraglider immediately, and glide to the shrine entrance. Look for them at cliff edges and near large thermal vents.
2
Skyview Towers — launch points for multiple shrines
Each Skyview Tower launches you high enough to glide to multiple sky shrines in its region. If you can see a sky shrine on the map but cannot reach it from the ground, find the nearest Skyview Tower, launch from it, and glide. Eat stamina food before gliding long distances — Stamella Shrooms restore stamina mid-air.
3
Zonai Devices near shrines are always hints
Fans, wings, rockets and balloons placed near a shrine entrance are not decoration. They show you the intended vehicle for reaching the shrine. A wing glider near a cliff shrine means build a glider and launch off the cliff edge. A fan on a platform means build a hovering vehicle.
4
Shrine Quests — some shrines require a side quest first
Roughly 30 of the 152 shrines are locked behind a Shrine Quest. The shrine marker appears on your map but the entrance is sealed. Talk to every NPC near the shrine marker to trigger the associated quest. Completing it unseals the entrance. Shrine Quests are marked in your quest log with a different colour to main quests.

04 — Shrine Rewards and Light of Blessing

Every completed shrine awards one Light of Blessing. Four Light of Blessings can be exchanged at any Goddess Statue for either a Heart Container (increases max HP) or a Stamina Vessel (increases stamina wheel).

ExchangeEffectWhen to Choose
Heart Container+1 heart (20 HP)If you are dying to boss attacks or environmental falls. Hearts let you survive more mistakes.
Stamina Vessel+1/5 stamina wheelIf you run out of stamina climbing or gliding. Stamina gates exploration significantly in TotK — getting two stamina upgrades early opens the map considerably.
📌 Recommended Split
The community consensus for a balanced playthrough: upgrade stamina first until you have 1.5 full wheels (one full wheel plus a partial) before switching to hearts. This gives you enough stamina to climb most rock faces and glide between sky islands without rest-stopping. After that, alternate hearts and stamina based on what is killing you.
